Starting Summer in Style

Memorial Day Weekend marks the start of summer, and for anyone in Maryland, summer means blue crabs. Paired with salad and garlic bread, they make a delicious lunch (and anytime I can use a wooden mallet at the table, I’m golden).

With family in town, my parents decided to order in some crabs — and shrimp for good measure. Steamed and seasoned with Old Bay, a Maryland staple that includes paprika, black and red pepper, mustard, celery salt and other spices, they’re messy and difficult to eat, but so worth the trouble!

Note (from 6/8): Per Nila’s request, a long-delayed (my bad!) photo:

Mmmm ... crab.
