In Defense of the Screwtop

As a (now former) student, I do most of my wine-drinking on a budget, which means a lot of three-buck Chuck. There’s the occasional screwtop bottle as well, generally frowned upon by the people at the store — and most of my friends. But I’m pretty unskilled with a corkscrew and I don’t always have one around, so I was very excited to see this article on The Huffington Post.

Kurt Friese makes a good point here:

“imagine if we were just today inventing the idea of wine and of putting it in a bottle. Do you think we would stop up the end with chunks of Portuguese tree bark? Not likely.”

Amen to that!
